Like other binary sulfur compounds of antimony and bismuth, Sb2Te3 has been studied for its semiconductor properties. By doping with appropriate dopants, it can be transformed into n-type and p-type semiconductors.

Sb2Te3 forms a pseudo binary intermetallic compound system of germanium antimony tellurium with germanium telluride GeTe.

Like bismuth telluride and bismuth 2 Te3, antimony telluride has a significant thermoelectric effect and is therefore used in solid-state refrigerators.
