Chromium carbide is a ceramic compound that exists in several different chemical compositions: Cr3C2, Chromium 7C3, and Cr23C6.Under standard conditions, it exists as a gray solid. It is very hard and corrosion resistant. It is also a refractory compound, which means it retains its strength at high temperatures. These properties allow it to be used as an additive in metal alloys. When chromium carbide crystals are bonded to the surface of a metal, it improves the metal's wear and corrosion resistance and maintains these properties at high temperatures.

Application of Chromium Carbide Target (Cr3C2)

Chromium carbide can be used for surface treatment of metal components. Chromium carbide is used to coat the surface of another metal using a technique called thermal spraying. Another technology uses chromium carbide in the form of cover plates. These are prefabricated chromium carbide coated steel plates designed to be welded to existing structures or machines to improve performance.

Chromium carbide is used as an additive in cutting tools made of hard alloys to improve toughness by preventing the growth of large grains. Cr3C2 can prevent the formation of large grains in composite materials, resulting in the formation of fine grain structures with excellent toughness.
