Photovoltaics and photocatalysis: thin films β- In2S3 can grow with different bandgaps, making them widely suitable for photovoltaic semiconductors, especially in heterojunction solar cells.

Biomedical: Indium sulfide preparations prepared with radioactive 113In can be used as lung scanning agents for medical imaging. It is well absorbed by lung tissue, but does not accumulate there.

Other: In2S3 nanoparticles emit light in the visible spectrum. The preparation of In2S3 nanoparticles in the presence of other heavy metal ions can produce efficient blue, green, and red phosphors, which can be used for projectors and instrument displays.
