Lithium fluoride, represented by the chemical formula LiF, is a colorless inorganic compound that becomes white when the crystal size is reduced. Despite being tasteless, it possesses a bitter-salty taste. Its structural composition is akin to that of sodium chloride, yet it is significantly less soluble in water. Its main application is in the composition of molten salts. The creation of LiF from lithium and fluorine elements is highly energetic, releasing one of the highest amounts of energy per mass of the reactants, with only beryllium oxide (BeO) surpassing it.
Purity: 99.9%
Specifications: -170 mesh, customizable
CAS: 7789-24-4
Utilized in specific ultraviolet optical components and as a crystal for analyzing X-ray spectroscopy.
Commonly applied in PLEDs (polymer light-emitting diodes) and OLEDs (organic light-emitting diodes) as an interlayer to improve electron injection.
Present in liquid fluoride nuclear reactors and employed in thermoluminescent dosimeters for detecting ionizing radiation.
Also a constituent of molten salts.
